Our Founders

Sibylle Rotach-Hunt, Founder and Former Director
Sibylle, founder and former director of The International School of Charlottesville, earned a B.A. and middle school teaching degree from the University of Berne, Switzerland, in 1983, and a M.Ed. In bilingual/multicultural education from George Mason University in 1996. She has over 20 years of teaching experience ranging from preschool children to adults in various discipline, including French immersion programs and elementary school. She was a teacher and the director of The International School of Charlottesville from 1998 until 2006.

ISC Board meetings are open to all parents.  If you have any questions or would like to attend, please email the Board of Trustees.

Meetings are held monthly at the school.

      Maïté Brandt-Pearce co-founded the ISC with
      Sibylle Rotach-Hunt in 1998. Having attended a
      partial language immersion school herself (colegio
      Franco-Peruano in Lima, Peru), she is fluent in French and has some familiarity with Spanish. She has served on the Board of Trustees of the ISC from its inception, as Treasurer from 1998-2005, Interim Chairman of the Board from 2002-2005, and member at large from 2005 to 2007. Maïté is also an alumni parent (Aidan and Leila).

When not taking care of business at the ISC, Maïté is a professor of electrical engineering at UVA specializing in fiber optic communications. She has earned a BSEE in 1985, an MEE in 1989, and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in 1993, all from Rice University in Houston, TX. She has over 75 published papers, all in electrical engineering.
